Encouraging People to Vote for Amendment 4

Name: Rafaella

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019

Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018

Name of Organization: lift Every Vote

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Molly Harris and Bridget Olsen

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

We filled out post cards to send to people in Florida encouraging them to register to vote and to vote for the right for people who have been incarcerated to vote.

What I learned:

Florida is disenfranchising people who have been incarcerated in the past. People got 34,000 names off of the list allowing them to vote. There are 1.4 million people in Florida who have been incarcerated. Florida is one of the last 3 states that doesn’t let people who have been incarcerated vote.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

You can do many different things for field works it all depends and what you are focusing on and what you are trying to learn more about. Sometimes field works means writing a lot of post cards to try and make a change.
