Name: Milei
Social Justice Group: Women and Education
Date of Fieldwork: February 5, 2018
Name of Organization: WEP
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Zoe Timms
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
For our second meeting with WEP we skyped with the founder of WEP, Zoe Timms. We caught up from our last meeting back when we were at the WEP headquarters in Dumbo. We asked her a lot of questions on why and when she decided to start this organization.
What I learned:
Something I learned was that there are so many things you can do in order to help this injustice. Zoe Timms decided to start this organization when she went to India and found so many young girls not in school and not getting an education. Instead some were working selling things in order to make money for their family. I also learned that Zoe Timms has been thinking about educating boys on this as well as girls. She believes that boys should learn about this topic because they are the ones who can help prevent it from it happening often too.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
Something I learned about doing civil and human right work from this fieldwork is that it is sometimes best to experience whats happening and/or imagine yourself being put in other situations. Zoe Timms helped us realize that there are a bunch of girls our age who we can relate to in some ways yet they are being mistreated and not getting an education like we are.
