Palliative Care With Yolanda Campbell

Name: Benjamin Winokur-Applebaum

Social Justice Group: The Rights of the Elderly

Date of Fieldwork: November 15, 2017

Name of Organization:

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Yolanda Campbell

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

For our first interview, our group did an interview with Yolanda Campbell. After a little trouble with the tech, we started asking her our questions. We loved her, responses. They were deep and very informative. She told us stories that only someone with her experience could have experienced, and she helped us understand the work that she does with seniors.

What I learned:

During our Skype call, we learned that Yolanda meets with many seniors and creates deep bonds with them to ease the end of their lives. After answering a question we asked, “Do you form connections with the seniors you visit?”, she said, “I connect with the patients as much as they are willing to connect with me.” She said that her job is built around, the elders, them having to meet with her and forming connections between the two of them.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that it is so important to form strong connections between seniors, so they have a light in their dark last years and have someone to pass on with by their side.

Benjamin

My name is Benjamin. I am interested in the topic: Rights of The Elderly because most of us will become a senior in our lives, and we will want more rights; if we will want rights then, we should fight for them now, when we have a voice and a chance to.
