Date of Fieldwork: January 20, 2018
Name of Organization: Women’s March
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles:
Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action
What I did:
I went to the women’s march with LREI and marched with a lot of people. Before I went to the march, I met everyone who was marching from LREI at the high school and made posters. Then everyone from LREI headed uptown to the march together. We didn’t really get the opportunity to actually march. After standing still and chanting for a few hours, we walked up the side of the barriers.
What I learned:
The women’s march didn’t teach me anything specific to my topic, but it did show teach me a lot about social justice work in general.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
This taught me that although human trafficking and other issues are extremely difficult things to abolish, there are so many people fighting against them. It was extremely inspiring to attend the women’s march because it showed that people are working hard everyday in order to stop important issues. The march made me realize that doing social justice work can form communities and give people a sense of unity. Overall, the women’s march helped me learn that people are working together vigorously in order to abolish issues in society.
