Interviewing Audrey Gaul

Name: Colette

Social Justice Group: Race and Education

Date of Fieldwork: January 17, 2018

Name of Organization: NAACP

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Audrey Gaul

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

Our group went to the NAACP workplace and interviewed the head of the education department at the NAACP, Mrs. Gaul. Mrs. Gaul works with the NAACP to provide quality education for black students who need extra support with their education.

What I learned:

We learned that in order for children to have a successful education, parents must be involved. Mrs. Gaul created a parent involvement program called Lifted to help parents navigate a better education for their kids. Parents must be involved in their children’s education to urge children to stay in school.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that in order to make a change, you must take action. Audrey Gaul is making a change in educational inequity by changing the system and taking action.

Colette

Hi, I'm Colette and I'm in the social justice group Educational Equity. I believe all students regardless of their financial situation and race should get a quality education. Students who are financially in need don't have equal rights to education as to students who are financially well off. In order for us to have an educated community, all students should receive a quality education now!
