Interviewing Aaron Greenburg.

Name: Hudson Kassen

Social Justice Group: Refugees

Date of Fieldwork: February 2, 2018

Name of Organization: UNICEF

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Aaron Greenburg, UNICEF Child Protection Officer

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We spoke to Aaron Greenburg, and he told us about the paths that most refugees leaving the middle east take. He also told us about the refugee camps he lived in.

What I learned:

In the refugee camps, you can always find somewhere to sleep, someone will always make space for you, but sometimes the flooding in places in Western Africa is so bad that you can’t leave for days on end. I learned that now the biggest problem refugees face is Xenophobia.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Social justice is easy to devote yourself to once you start it can become your whole life. Aaron has worked with UNICEF for ten years now and was with the Peace Corps before that. Once he joined the Peace Corps he knew that this was what he was really passionate about.

Hudson

My name is Hudson. I am interested in the topic of refugees because it's a problem that is very relevant right now. This topic is important because with Donald Trump in office the USA is taking in very few refugees.
