Date of Fieldwork: January 16, 2018
Name of Organization: No organization
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Liliana Tandon the creator of Period Piece
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
We interviewed Liliana Tandon who is the creator of Period Piece. She makes comedy videos about women getting their periods through time. It was really cool to learn all about her videos and how she got started.
What I learned:
We learned that comedy is a good way to impact how people think about her period. And that bringing comedy to periods is a good way to help people realize periods aren’t all about the pain.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I learned that women have had to go through so much over the years and no one ever thinks about the fact that while going through that millions have women were on their periods. It really taught me to think about the fact that women around you all have to deal with periods. So its nothing to shame but its also something we really have to pay attention to. If you see a woman like Hillary Clinton making a speech think about the fact that she gets her period too and that she has cramps once a month but she doesn’t let that stop her. On a similar note, it also taught me that we shouldn’t let anything get in our way of achieving our dreams or persisting to get what we want or need to do.
