What I did:
We interviewed Nan Strauss who used to work at Choices in Childbirth. She recently moved to Every Mother Counts, we discussed why Choices in Childbirth is important and why young girls should be interested in Maternal care even if it doesn’t apply to them.
What I learned:
One important thing we learned was the AAAQ which stands for availability fewer not enough doctors or it could be that doctors in nyc there are people over worked which affects the amount of care they can provide, acceptability cultural practices that affect how people treat them- immigrants, drugs, do they need care and support or do they need to be reported to the police, quality – quality of care in us we have an interesting thing for care if u have a severe complication in a good place but ironically they normal care you get here is too much too soon medial procedures that are used all the time and there’s no evidence that they help.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
Sometimes during labor, the patient and doctor have a discussion about her certain need needs in the birth. Some doctors think that because they’re more experienced in the field that they get to make all the important decisions. But after talking with Nan we learned that women in labor need to trust their nurse, midwife, Dula, and gut because of thouse and the things you’re familiar with. This is important because you don’t meet with your doctor weeks in advance but you meet with your Dula and they get to know you.
