During my groups interview with Edward Stern we learned many ways that people are helping water pollution and fish stocks right now. This interview was a key part of our project and was the whole basis of our economic perspective on water pollution. Many people all over the world rely on fish as their main source of food. Every year more and more fish are taken to feed families all over the world. Fishermen have also needed to keep up with the growing market and maintain a steady flow of fish which led to overfishing. However the EDF knew they needed to make people cut back on fishing to repopulate the stock in order for fish to continue thriving. Many fishermen knew that they had to limit their fishing and wait for the fish to reach steady numbers again before fishing continued. After this the fishers where given “fish stocks” which let 65 percent of all fish stocks repopulate. 80 percent of the worlds fishing happens in 12 countries and the EDF is trying to give these countries fish stocks to help the fish population. It was truly a pleasure to talk with Edward Stern about this topic and he gave us so much good information.
