Caroline’s 2nd Fieldwork – Phone Call w/ Keli Goff

On December 28th, 2016, my Social Justice group and I had an over the phone interview with a woman named Keli Goff. Keli Goff is an American journalist, playwright and screenwriter. She is currently making a documentary about women rights. As a writer she covers politics and more. She read a lot about politics and women issues. She first came to prominence as a blogger and political commentator during the 2008 election. Keli is not someone who is a fan of social media. She believes that it had made people dumber and more impatient. She told us that she does know people who are intelligent because of things like social media, but people all throughout the world should start reading newspapers and other more informative types of material. As we all know, social media is wrong and incorrect a lot of the time. Social media has become a resource used a lot to expose information, especially with our president elect. The problem is that social media is not a direct source. It does not give you all of the information or all of the correct information. Keli also stated: “The other downside to social media is that it escalates diversion in our community.” I agree with this statement. Social media has influenced so many issues in the world, it’s not even funny. Social media has always found a way to change or influence a situation. I think Keli Goff is a very smart woman who I learned a lot from and had a lot of fun talking to.

Caroline

Hi, my name is Caroline and I am an 8th grader a LREI. My Social Justice topic is women's reproductive rights and I chose this topic because one woman dies of complications during pregnancy and childbirth and I want to help change that statistic.
