A Trip to Housing Works, 1/26/17

On Thursday, January 26th, our LGBTQ Social Justice group took a trip to Housing Works. It is an organization that has fought to end AIDS and support LGBTQ people for many years. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to work there for four hours that day. Since we were required to go with an adult, Jen agreed to come with us. Once we got there we were given aprons with wonderful messages printed on them, like, “I want to end AIDS by 2021.” Each of us was assigned to work at different stations. The stations were the men’s’ section, the dresses, the pants and skirts, the shoes, the shirts, and one of us got to stand in front of the entrance to greet people as they came in. We really enjoyed organizing and helping customers out. It felt really good to be making a difference, not only because we were helping out a store, but because we knew that Housing Works gave a lot of their money to help LGBTQ people. Though we did not learn anything, our group enjoyed working together for an amazing cause. We all agreed that we would love to go again.
