Yesterday my Social Justice group and i met with Lisa Miller. Lisa Miller is a writer and journalist. She was a big part of the documentary, “Guns and Empathy.” We brought her in to our classroom to talk to her and for her to share who she is and the meaning behind her documentary. We watched the documentary and then we asked her many questions and gave our classmates the chance to ask some too. This fieldwork had a huge impact on our group because no other Social Justice group really didn’t know anything about our group but after this fieldwork many of my classmates came up to me and said, “I didn’t know that!” or “that video made me cry, I can’t believe the story about that guy.” This made me feel better in a way knowing that my classmates got to meet Lisa Miller and really learn some important facts about Gun Control. Although this fieldwork was very successful I feel like for next time we can be a little more prepared and rehearse a little before the speaker comes. At times our group didn’t know when to get up and when to sit down. We also could have been a little clearer on our questions. I want to remember all the stories we heard from this documentary and share them in our Teach-In to show the different things and different impacts gun violence can have on people.
