For our 4th field work my group met with Aravella Simotas. Simotas is an assemblywoman for the district of Astoria. She passed a bill that made sex trafficking posters strongly recommended at gas stations and bus stops. She said she wants them there because we’re traffickers are transporting girls they stop and let the girl get out she if one them sees a sign they can save themselves. She told us that she has only meet with a few victims because some they helped her a lot with the bill. Something that surprised me was that she didn’t make the posters a requirement at the bus stops and gas stations. Simotas explained that it would be to hard to make it a requirement. We explained to her how we thought it would be a really good idea if girls were taught about this problem in schools because they would no not to get involved. I was very surprised when Simotas then said that she wanted to fund s new bill were it is a requirement to teach about it in school. Something that we are going to add in our tech-in from Simotas is we are going to give kids posters to hang up around their neighborhoods.
