For our 3rd field work we brought someone in to talk to our class. Her name was Peggy Kern and she wrote a book called Little Peach. Little Peach was about a girl who was trafficking in Coney Island. Peggy talked about her research and how she met and stuck with a woman named Gina. Gina had been trafficked as a kid and was now married to a man who runs a brothel. She is married to him so that she can give hints to the police about what he is doing secretly. I learned more about the different types of tattoos that people get when they are trafficked. She showed us pictures of different girls she met with and their tattoos. It was really upsetting to actually see the pictures of real victims rather than hear stories about them. For our teach-in I definitely want to talk more about the tattoos and how this follows the victims around for the rest of their lives. Also how one girl from the Bronx could have a red star tattoo on her ear and someone in Queens could have the same one. Everyone is connected to each other and kids should understand how horrible this really is.
