On November 14th my group and I watched the documentary Flow by Irena Salina. In this movie, there were interviews with scientists about the lack of freshwater and where and who’s already getting affected. In the movie, they were interviewing people not just in the United States but in some other countries like Bolivia, Mexico, and countries in Europe. I learned that four in five Americans drink bottled water and one in five Americans will only drink bottled water. In the movie, it also talked a lot about how water bottling companies like Nestle have made people who would have had access to the water have to pay for it. Some companies are just bottling tap water and selling it for money to people who’ll pay for it. The world is running out of fresh water, and we’re going to run out of it very soon. Nestle takes water from places for free and the bottles it and sells it, which makes them 1.8 million dollars a day. People assume that bottled water is healthier or better for you but it’s actually the same if not worse for your health. Another fact I learned in this film was that the United Nations estimated it would require 30 billion dollars a year to provide the world with safe drinking water.
