Suzanne’s interview 1/9/17.

My group and I are in the GSA club in our school. The GSA club is a group for people of the LGBTQ community and allies of the LGBTQ community. One of the teachers named Suzanne made this club and allowed us to interview her on the discrimination she dealt with because she is gay. When she first came out to her dad and brother they felt uncomfortable with this topic and would often make jokes to make themselves feel better. Now they are much more open to her talking about her sexuality. She explained to us that when people think about being gay they often relate being gay to sex. Suzanne wants to change how people view people who are LGBTQ and made the GSA club so kids in our school could talk about their gender and sexuality. Another topic that came up was that people assume she is straight. She has to keep coming out and keep telling people that she is not straight. She gets many questions on who her husband is and then has to tell them that she has a wife. Even when she tells people she has a wife they always take a minute to understand that she is gay. This is because our society says that being staright is normal and when someone is gay it is different. This inspired our group to talk more about sexuality and have conversations with each other.
