On on December 9th, my group and I set off to go to the Center for Reproductive Rights. When we first walked in we were greeted with a huge smile and we all were overwhelmed by the view which was breathtaking. We ended up in a conference room with Devon Hutchins, and her two colleagues Lauren and Genevieve. The Center Of Reproductive Rights is an organization that focuses on using the law to protect and defend women’s reproductive rights.

We discussed many topics such as the previous case they worked on, what it means to have the choice, and how access is a large barrier for many women. We learned a lot! One thing that struck me and even still sticks by me is that the number one barrier for an abortion is location and money. This is an easy issue to fix! How on earth is it 2017 and that some women cannot get the proper reproductive care because of laws This is ridiculous! And something has to be done. Lastly, we asked them on their thoughts about the Texas “burying a fetus law,” for those of you who don’t know this law makes women have a “proper” burial service for a fetus if they chose to get an abortion. The three women explained that: This is one of the many ways they shame and guilt women to feel bad for making a decision that is best for them. How is this fair?

Overall we had a great time talking with Center For Reproductive Rights and learned lots of new information about our topic.
