Our third fieldwork was going to the Taylor Swift Experience at the Grammy Museum. This exhibit was mostly made by Taylor Swift herself. We went there because we wanted to see how they would portray Taylor Swift, the pop star who has been criticised in the media many times. We wanted to know if the would focus on gossip and beauty or if they would really talk about her accomplishments as a powerful role model. We were really struck by how powerful she is, whenever people criticize her, she doesn’t let it bring her down, instead she comes back stronger and all of this through her music. We also learned that she started at a young age and wrote all of her songs herself, she didn’t let people tell her what to do. This is really strong and important because she is different that what the media makes a “woman” look like. She even showed the world how she can’t dance, in one of her videos, and she was proud of that! We thought that the Exhibit was well made and it really talked about her accomplishments and her skills. I would like to use her as an example of a powerful role model in the social justice teach-in.
