On Thursday, November 10th, (the same day we went to FIERCE. We had a long day.) my group went to see the EI High School Play, The Laramie Project together. The Laramie Project (written by Moises Kaufman) is based on the true story of what happened in Laramie, Wyoming. A twenty-year-old man named Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered. This was all an act of a hate crime. Matthew was a gay man, and the men who killed him were against gay people. I learned so much watching this play. I learned about the story which I had never heard of before? Some hate crimes can be so insane. Why would anyone take someone’s life because of something they don’t like about them? It is crazy the extent someone would go to. The men who killed Matthew pretended they were gay to get him in their car. This play was very interesting because they used monologues from interviews from people who witnessed different things in the small town of Laramie. It was interesting to hear the experiences of people who knew Matthew, saw him when he was dead. The acting was amazing, and the whole play was so sad, but put on perfectly by the High Schoolers. I learned so much from this story, and it was amazing.
