Karma Kids Yoga Volunteer Work, 11/26/16

My group is focusing on helping kids with disabilities participate in athletic activities. On Monday, November 21, my group and I went to Karma Kids Yoga to take part in a class for children with autism. There was one boy there, Kingston, and we participated in the yoga class with him, to understand how organizations like Karma Kids Yoga allow children like Kingston to stay active while having a disability. Even though our session was only 45 minutes long, we made a strong connection, and hopefully lightened his day by giving him the opportunity to spend time with other kids that care about him. This experience definitely made a difference in the way I view his situation, along with many other kids who have the same disability. I know that they can be happy and “normal” as long as kids and adults, like me, Sylvie, and Victor, try to make their situation easier to handle. By going to the class and seeing how much Kingston enjoyed being with us, I now know that everyone can be happy, they just need the right exposure and support. If we can make a difference in one kids’ life, why can’t we do that for everyone? I cannot wait to go on the next field work to find out how we can make the world a more enjoyable place for all kids like Kingston.
