Today I met with Kim Russell, a representative from the Brady Campaign. During this fieldwork we sat and talked about Kim’s work at the Brady Campaign. Unfortunately I was sick and couldn’t make it, but one of my team members facetimed me so I could hear everything and even ask questions. Kim Russell was talking about what the Brady Campaign does and how they make a difference and she was also talking about general things on gun control and gun laws. Kim said “It is more likely that it will be used in homicide and accidental deaths than protection. ”This really shocked me because there are also mass shootings and attacks which means that if most of the shootings are from suicide, there most be TONS of gun deaths. I asked her a question about if guns are ever used as a defense because many grownups keep guns in their homes for safety but the only thing that results to is a kid finding it and shooting themselves. This fieldwork really motivated me and probably my group too, to get up and help make a change to gun violence. I want to fix gun laws in specific states and make our country what it should be. When Kim told me that she once got shot it just shocked me because I’ve never really met a person who has been shot before. I want to remember what she said about how many deaths there are in a year and about how suicides are the main source of gun death. I will definitely use this in my groups teach-In.
