We asked if we could volunteer with Fierce, an organization that helps LGBTQ youth feel confident and encourages people to come out, and learn more about what they do to help. The Executive Director, Mustafa, said he would love to have us. On November 10th, my group and I went to the Bronx to go to Fierce. We went into the building and met Mustafa. He gave us a piece of paper that allowed you to say what gender you think you are and how you express it. I learned the difference between what gender you are and how feminine and masculine you act. You could be female but still act masculine. He then gave a piece of paper called flower power which had many different topics on it and it allowed you to say how privileged you feel in one topic. Example: for the age category kids would say they are less privileged since they are young. Lastly, we made a poster that showed how we saw justice and asked us to draw a poster. We drew a poster that showed that all people are equal no matter who they love. We made the rainbow as rainbows are the flag for gay pride and we also made people holding hands and with rainbow colored clothes. We had a fist in the middle because to us that showed justice and power.
This is me and my group during the fieldwork.
