On November 16, my group (Georgia, Cate, and Caroline) and I went to “Every Mother Counts.” Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. They inform new audiences to take action and raise funds to support maternal health programs around the world.
When we got to the office we sat down with Christy Turlington the founder, Perrie Grace who controls all of the volunteering and much more, and Maddie Wasserman who controls all of the running events and is also a doula. When we were all in the conference room we watched a video before we watched it I thought that I was going to just sit there and watch something like any other video, however, this was like no other. It was extremely empowering and I knew that we have the power to make an impact on the world. In the video, we saw that Christy and her team changed many women and their babies lives, by providing them with the proper care.
After the video, We discussed many topics such as doulas, overseas issues, Roe vs Wade, who they The case is filed by Norma McCorvey, known in court documents as Jane Roe against Henry Wade, the district attorney of Dallas County from 1951 to 1987, who enforced a Texas law that prohibited abortion, except to save a woman’s life. Support. The subject of having a choice to get an abortion getting pushed off the table is scary for many people, especially for reproductive rights organizations. When we asked Every Mother Counts about how do they feel about the new election and possibly having Roe vs Wade reversed, they said: “It doesn’t change our mission, we are sticking true to what we’re doing, this makes our work more important.” I totally agree with Every Mother Counts, it’s very terrible that abortions could become illegal, but truly what would we do without these people who work hours and nights to make sure women are represented and are treated equally, and have the resources they need.
