The main problem that our group focused on was Children in Poverty. We chose this because many people are unaware of how big of a problem poverty is in our city and in our country. We wanted to help educate others because they may not know about the problem or if/how they should help. We discovered that children born into low income families or neighborhoods were affected by this problem. With the limited food options, education, health insurance and more it makes it very difficult for them to escape the vicious cycle of poverty. Our group volunteered at different food pantries around the city to learn about poverty and food insecurity and also make a difference. Through all of our research in the field we found that a main cause that so many are in poverty, is because they are always at a disadvantage compared to wealthier people. Homeless people and people living in poverty are looked down upon in society and face many stereotypes which makes it extremely hard for them to strive in school, at a job, etc. Overall, we wanted to learn as much as we could about this problem so we could teach others and help impoverished people and families escape the cycle of poverty.
