Children In Poverty: Share

After the feel, image, and do stage my group felt that we were strongly educated on our topic and thought that we could make a change. To educate people on our topic we held a teach-in and taught the fifth, sixth and seventh graders at our school about our topic. To do this we deigned a teach-in. At this teach-in we defined words like poverty and the poverty line, described what we did to help the problem and gave that our solution. We also had them play a game to put them in the shoes of someone living in poverty. While they were playing this game they exhibited frustration and seemed to truly understand the difficulty people in poverty face. Even thought the school time we were given to work on this project is up I would like to continue working on this issue. I can continue to sign bills that help this topic like the raising of minimum wage to 15 dollars; that was recently passed. I can also continue to volunteer at food pantries and soup kitchens with friend and family.

My name is Ryann and I am an eighth grader at LREI: Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School . My social justice project topic is children in poverty and the health issues they my acquire or have. I am interested in this topic because I both want to make a change in NYC's children in poverty and want to first hand volunteer and help.
