MMC Visit #2 2/10/16

My group and I visited the MMC (Marina Maher Communications) again. This time we set up a meeting with a specific group of women that deal with advertising different brands. We talked to them about how the media portrays things in a wrong way, and then girls aren’t prepared when they actually need to deal with something like that. One of the stories that captured my mind the most was the “Declaration of Real Talk” Campaign. The media has a bunch of different words for periods and vaginas. Such as vajayjay, girl flu and many other. The media often sugarcoats stuff, and that is not good because then it gives the wrong message to girls. What MMC wanted to do was show girls the real story, and not sugar coat stuff. They called this “Decleration of Real Talk” because they promised that they wouldn’t sugar coat anything and every part of your body will be referred to as its actual name and not some cute made up nickname. They got Khloe Kardashian because she at that time had two younger sister who were just starting puberty. Khloe had to teach her little sister about what is happening with their body. So they made a huge brick wall and spray painted all of the made up nicknames about periods on it. Then Khloe took a huge hammer and started smashing the wall down. All around they had iPads that people could sing up on and promise that they will never use a nickname for their periods or anything else. They were singing the “Declaration of Real Talk” A lot of times the media doesn’t talk about stuff truthfully and then young girls get the wrong idea. The media makes up stuff and young teenagers believe it. I thought this was very interesting because if we don’t tell young girls the real truth about the world, they will not be prepared. If we sugarcoat something, they will not be prepared for what is actually going to happen.
