My group and I decided to interview Nigel Barker who works for He for She and Girl up. He for She is an organization that stands up for gender equality. Girl up engages girls to stand up for girls, standing up for each other and changing the world. The reason why Barker started to work for Girl Up and He for She was because he wanted to show that men can be part of this campaign. In fact, he doesn’t think He for She should be named that, he thinks it should be named We for We. He says that women and men will never be equal, no one will ever be equal to each other. Barker also disagrees with the term “feminist”, he said, “It’s not a feminist issue, it’s a humanist issue.” He was inspired by his mother and his grandmother, when he was little he wanted to have a kid so his mom decided to buy him a doll. Now a day’s a lot of people would make fun of a boy playing with a doll, but Barker’s mother didn’t see that getting in the way of anything. This made him become interested in fashion, which made him go to a class with 24 girls, while he was the only boy. Barker has become famous for the things he has done to change women equality and women that are being discriminated.
