My group and I wanted to go out further to interview different women and their occupations. We reached out to Tanya Wexler who is a female director who has produced 2 independent movies. Tanya was very smart and went through Yale and studied psychology. When she grew up she went out to LA and started to go into acting. She decided to write a short story for herself to film that she would star in it, she gave it to her friends and they liked it but they said it was more of a directors script. At that moment she realized she liked writing scripts more, and figuring out the lighting and directions; she decided to peruse her career in that direction instead. Only 4% of women are directors and only 10% are women in independent and in big studios. Straight white guys are default directors. While Tanya was making her movies she wanted to have as many women as she could. While knowing that there are more men directors she feels excited and pissed, but she loves what she does, she likes being a woman.
