Meeting with Jackie Rowe-Adams, founder of Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. 1/12

On January 12th, my group and I went to 306 West 128th Street to meet with Jackie Rowe-Adams, founder of Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E., which is an organization that helps families of victims of gun violence. It is considered to be one of the most prolific gun violence prevention organizations in the whole of New York City. When we first got in contact with Ms. Rowe-Adams, she was the most helpful person so far that we have met. We contacted her, and right away, she answered right away, and we had no problem scheduling an appointment. When we actually started to go up to her office, we took the D train up to 125th Street, walked three blocks, and were at her office. We waited for about 10 minutes, then were greeted by Ms. Rowe-Adams. She was a little shorter than I expected at first, but that really didn’t matter. We talked about her work, what we can do, and her concept behind her organization. It was really interesting because we could hear a lot about the inner workings of an organization. When we left her office, we could see a board on her office wall, which had pictures of all victims of gun violence. It was really interesting to see all of those pictures. I thought that our whole group did really well, especially when it came to elaborating on a lot of her answers. I thought that I could have maybe asked a couple of more questions than I did. Overall, I thought that I had a great visit. I can’t wait for the next one.

Hello, my name is Will Bompey, and I am an eighth grader at Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School. My group's topic is gun violence prevention. I chose this topic because I feel like there are too many massacres, and we are becoming numb to that as a society.
