LSA Fieldwork

Screen Shot 2016-02-05 at 2.58.49 PMFor our fieldwork at LSA we unboxed food and put the food on the shelves. After that fun and long process we went “shopping” with some of LSA’s clients. The reason I say shopping is because LSA lets there clients chose what foods they want and they have a certain amount of points they can use in each shelf. Those coulombs are grains, vegetables, fruits and dairy. Depending on how many people are in the family will determine the amount of points they have. It was very knowledgeable to go work at LSA because we got to have hands on experience with families who live in poverty. Here are Some questions that I am still curious about are is what is the most common health issue a child in poverty might have? What are some health issues that you have seen children have because they are in poverty. Can being in poverty affect the mental health of a child? If a child is born into poverty, how difficult is it for them to get out of it as they grow older?

I am an eighth grader at LREI and my social justice project focuses on Family Health Issues in NYC. I want to make NYC a place where people don't have to worry about health issues and/or poverty. I chose learning about family health because I want people to relize how many people are suffering because of health issues in NYC.
