Harlem Gallery Mapping and Meeting

On Wednesday January 20th Mark took our Social Justice group was went to the School of Visual Arts, to talk about Harlem, and what it means to live in Harlem. We were shown a gallery, and in that gallery was a big canvas with a birds-eye map of Harlem on it. They put pins on places of the map to symbolize different locations in Harlem. For example, there were red pins marked on the map showing all of the security cameras located in Harlem. After looking at the map for a while, everyone else who was observing the gallery split into small groups to talk about their feelings on the map. I thought it was interesting how much they invested in security related things rather than community related things. For example, having a community center rather than a video camera that has no use. Anyway, I really enjoyed this experience, and I learned a great deal from it.

Reggi

My name is Reggi, I am an eighth grader at LREI, Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School in Greenwich Village. My social justice topic is Children In Poverty. I chose this because I am interested in finding the number of children that do not have enough food to survive, and helping them in whichever way we can.
