Around a week ago my group took a fieldwork visit to MMC (Marina Maher Communications) where we got to ask various useful and great questions about our topic. MMC is a publicizing company that focuses on marketing towards women. They work with many companies such as Covergirl, Herbal essences, U by Kotex, Venus, Head and Shoulders and many other big brands. When we got there, the office displayed many of their ad campaigns and work that they have done with other companies. It was really great to see the many different ways ads are represented and what audience you are looking for. It was also really interesting to to learn how ad company’s grab different audiences. Whether it’s a girl or a boy (at mmc we talked about grabbing girls attention) they want to make sure that the shot is very fashion forward. From the color scheme to layout it has to be something popular that will grab the current age of girls attention. We got to walk around the office as well as talk to some people who work with their campaigns. It was really great to hear about the work that they have done with different companies and brands. For instance, cover girl has their own ad campaign called girls who code. It is a whole spread where they film different girls who are able to code and show another side to them then just looks. We also got to visit Marina Maher herself and her office. It was so nice getting to talk to her about our project and how important it is to our curriculum. She gave us advice on the industry and her look at our project.
