Early Wednesday morning, our group and the Change Climate Change group took a bus all the way to Albany! We were on our way to a climate change walk. Although it was very cold, it was definitely worth it. We held signs and made noise to raise awareness of what NY State is doing to our environment. The walk was all about fossil fuels and how we are using non-renewable sources like oil and coal. That we should instead use hydro power, solar and wind energy. The walk focused a lot on the use of pipelines and fracking. We learned that not only are we polluting and wasting our sustainability- that a major pipeline was going to be placed near the Catskills, and would run 121 miles! This pipeline would eventually lead to fracking. This will cause pollution to the air, soil and water. I felt very upset and disgusted. The fact that people are agreeing to this pipeline, we are polluting and harming our environment. If we keep fracking, eventually our world collapse. That scared me. As I saw people holding signs and chanting, I felt hope. We need to stop fracking. Not only in New York or the U.S. We need to stop this worldwide. I was very excited and happy that we were able to raise awareness. People took pictures, chanted along with us and were curious. The highlight of this fieldwork for me was carrying the pipeline. As a community, we all carried a giant inflated pipeline. We held signs and chanted, “Stop the Constitution Pipeline!” This really motivated me to want to take action and raise awareness. I really enjoyed this fieldwork, it really inspired me and taught me something.
