My group and part of the education group went to the St. Brigid’s school to volunteer at a Breakfast with Santa where there was food, music, arts and crafts, etc. for the children. Our main tasks were serving food and helping children with the arts and crafts. The organization is called the Children’s Scholarship Fund which funds education for children in need. We were told that most of the students at St. Brigid’s school are a part of this program, so it was really great to meet children who related to our topic. I learned that we are very good at interacting with others and made friends quickly with the children who came to do arts and crafts with them. We assisted them to make snowflakes, candy canes, etc. and we talked to them about school and the holidays. This impacted me a lot because it was really great how happy the kids were to do arts and crafts and meet Santa. Some next steps that I want to make with my group is to have more fieldworks like this where we interact with children. I feel like they are very fun and meaningful and teach us a lot. Overall I thought this was an amazing fieldwork because we really got to interact with the children who are in the situations that we are focusing on.
