On Thursday, 10th of December, our group had a representative from Amnesty International, come in and talk about imprisoned writers to the 7th and 8th grade. Amnesty holds a write for rights campaign. This event got our attention because it was writing to people who were revoked from their freedom of speech. Each year Amnesty chooses 12 important writers or journalists that were imprisoned because of what they write. Amnesty International gave us the opportunity to communicate with these people, by sending letters or drawing to some of the people.
Before the 7th and 8th graders got a chance to write about the imprisoned we first had a presentation to the two grades to go over the people so they have a good understanding of who they are writing to. Then Alex on Thursday the 10th came in and spoke to each grade and it seemed like a good activity for the two grades to express how they felt to the imprisoned writes. I would like to thank Alex for coming in and helping us and also thanking the 7th and 8th grade teachers for letting us to this.
