Interview with Riley Chaffin

imageFor our third fieldwork, my group briefly interviewed Riley Chaffin, a model. We asked her about a few things that fall under the category, women in the media. One question we asked her about was her opinion about was womens portrayal in the media. We asked if she thought that the issue needed to be addressed. We asked her things like “what makes a girl beautiful” and other questions along those lines. We also asked if she had ever had anyone tell her that she was not “good” enough. Her answer to that question was yes. She explained to us about how she had been told that she needed to loose some weight. Hearing that as a model is very hard. That is because people who are models make their livings by modeling and having their photos taken. And, if they are turned down for work or told they need to loose weight, they have no work and therefor, are not earning any money. We asked her how she became involved with the modeling industry. She began telling us that when she was a teenager, she liked attention, as many models do. She began getting proffesional photos taken for her portfolio. When she went looking for work, she would show them her portfolio and they would give feedback.
