Daniel Sherrell is the head organizer in New York for the Sierra club. Our interview with Daniel Sherrell went very well. We asked Dan about how he got into working with the Beyond Coal Campaign and be basically told us how he got started with climate change. His father partly worked in Antarctica and throughout the years their family would see the changes between the old Antarctica and the new and now this was effected by climate change. Then he worked on a project in college and finally got associated with the Sierra club. Dan recommended 350.org to us and told us all about their mission statement and their founder, Bill McKibben. Dan also spoke to us about the fossil fuel divestment movement an example and reminder we gave to act fast. 2 degrees Celsius is the greatest change our world temperature can change before things will start to go really wrong. Dan also mentioned that when approaching the topic we need to move faster than the government but not too fast. Obviously we don’t want to rush through things but if we don’t act fast then our world world will be lost. We also need to educate others in and out of school so we have more people on our side fighting. Movement requires diversity, and that is what this movement needs. We also need to sign on letters for elected officials these will get them to care, the more elected officials that care the more power we have in making a change. The Chinese also need to/ will pledge emissions by 2030. Overall our interview with Dan gave us a lot of information about the Beyond Coal Campaign. We also are a part of the emailing list so we can be notified of upcoming events. We learned about how we can take action and what it takes to do that.
