For our third fieldwork we interviewed Riley chafin an independent model in LA. We got in touch with her through Jaquie and set up a FaceTime call to ask her some questions about the industry. We asked her various questions from what the industry is like to more detailed ones like how it changed her life. Riley said that being in the industry is very stressful and puts a lot of pressure on you. She began doing modeling when she was 15 and was scouted by an agency. She is tall and skinny, just what they wanted. She also talked about how much the industry changed her life and how much her routine changed. For instance she says that she became addicted to working out and did almost 3 times a day, which isn’t normal. She told us that one day she had a couple pimples on her forehead and was breaking out a little. She went to her industry to talk about plans and one of her managers said “who are you? you can’t be serious with your face looking like that”. These agencies are pretty in humane and are not the best environment to be in. She said that a lot of nice things About being a model and why a lot of teens do it is for attention. The camera is always on you in shoots making you look your best and you are the main focus. But behind all of that there is a lot of false “dream life” assumptions. These models are breaded and made to model clothes and looks for money. The agency does not always care about your feelings and wether or not you like the clothes you are obligated to wear, you just model the clothes and almost act.
