The black panthers are member “of a militant political organization set up in the US in 1966 to fight for black rights.” We went to see the movie Black Panthers Vangaurd of a Revolution last wednesday with the Black Rights activist group. The movie we about the Black Panther group, the leaders of the group and their rights. It was not just the content in the movie that was made it was also what they said in the movie that might have been wrong. In the movie they portrayed the cops in the 60’s and 70’s as pigs and our group that wasn’t accurate. Otherwise then that the film was accurate but something that was interesting in the movie was that during a court session a Black Panther member’s mouth was taped shut. His mouth was taped shut because he was talking too much and out of turn, but he does still have the right to speak. It is also illegal to tape someones mouth shut, and I thought that was important on how the people back then were. The members of the Black Panther group were also under high surveillance by the federal government without knowing. This is not right because they couldn’t exercise their freedom of speech their, privacy. This has to do with my social justice book a lot because our book was about the government spying on people and how that came out. I think the movie was a good representation of how people’s personal life was getting violated.
