For my group’s second field work we went to LSA. We volunteered at their food pantry and helped at least ten families get the appropriate amount of food. Unlike most food pantries were food is distributed in bags and clients don’t have a choice of what they are getting, LSA gives people a choice and makes it have a more supermarket feel. Since thanksgiving was coming up when we were at LSA, they were giving out extra ham and chicken. LSA is also one of the only places that offers help in many places and situations. They don’t only offer food pantries but, have an early childhood program. This helps children 3-5 in academic work. They also help parents learn how to be good parents and steer kid in the right direction to success. However, LSA is not a weekly or daily pantry where people can come. People can only come monthly and it is an emergency pantry. Working with the client at LSA was a great experience and taught me a lot about how the world works. Hopefuly my group can go back and work at the childhood center next.
