Jumpstart is a preschool tutoring program that provides resources and attention to preschool children. They focus on vocabulary, literacy, reading and writing. They give room for creativity while maintaining a structured 2-hour session. We contacted them and were able to go to a breakfast with them. We learned about how they structure their tutoring sessions, who tutors the kids, why it makes a difference. Their motto is Kids First. They do their best to provide for the children, reach individual goals, and help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. One of the things they talked about was the 30 million word gap. Studies have shown that children in lower income communities have been proven to know 30 million less words than their more fortunate peers by age 3. They do their best to bridge that gap and have a strong emphasis on vocabulary, looking forward they want to better adress social and emotional vocabulary because it has been found to improve other areas of language and learning. They are also looking to better address 3 things, kids, classrooms, and communities because these are key things in the education system. Overall, we learned a lot about jumpstart and early child development.
