My group watched a movie called Miss Representation which is about how women are portrayed in the media. Miss Representation is a documentary which shows how celebrities and people in the news and how they are treated by others, by the media. This helped my group and I learn about how others in the world think of women and how they are considered less important than men. Especially since the movie showed lots of facts that stated, that women are shown in less in on and radio channels. There were also lots of facts about how younger girls have issue with their bodies as well. Like 70% of girls in middle school or high school have issues with their body. It also was saying how women like Hilary Clinton and how she was called names for headlines. Men are more portrayed as a better figure for a leader and they “label” them with names. This movie lead us to more of what we wanted to focus on. This was our first fieldwork we held, and I felt it was a great start and that we learned so much already. We are going to try to get in contact with the director of the movie since it would be helpful if we could possible interview them. We also want to contact some people that talked in the movie as well. While watching the movie it made my group and I think of things that has happened to women but not really brought to attention. My group members and I all thought this was a great movie to start with and it led to many calls and emails that we have sent out to people in this topic. For our teach-in I want us to make sure we include some of the facts that we learned. They were very interesting and useful for the teach-in.
