On February 19th my group and I met with Victoria Lee. Victoria is an amazing model who has worked with many companies such as Ralph Lauren, American eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Glamour magazine, Vanity Fair magazine, Elle magazine. Over the fall I went with the Aerospace gym to Tulum. They held a three day boxing camp in Tulum. Victoria was there along with a some other models. I had told Victoria about our project and she was very interested. I later on had my mom reach out to her again and ask if we could do an interview with her. She was very excited to meet with us. Going into this I tried to have an open mind and try and see how the media effects models also. Victoria talked about what a real model has to do to make it far in the industry. She talked about how most models actually go to the gym and eat healthy. She said that majority of models don’t smoke and starve themselves to stay thin. She really made me realize that there are stereotypes that models have to deal with. She also talked about how models need to be smart to make it far. She talked about how she doesn’t go to all the parties she gets invited to because she sometimes get’s invited so that there is a “pretty face” there. She is talked about how one of the hardest things for her is being away from home. She is very close with her family and she hates being away from them. She sometimes has to skip being with them on certain holidays because she has to work. She said that one way she keeps herself from getting completely homesick is knowing that her family is a phone call away. This interview left me thinking that you have to learn about both sides of the topic you are learning about.
