Interview with Coe Booth

We were lucky enough to get the opportunity to meet with the author Coe Booth and speak about her book Tyrell and speak about her own experiences. She came to our school and met with us in the library. She was very easy to talk to and was very open about her experience. Ms. Booth explained how she stumbled upon her life experiences. The stories she told were absolutely shocking. She would work with others to make sure that families and children are safe. She has seen so many things that seem surreal. From insane people to dangerous areas she has seen it all. When she was younger she had actually been sexually abused. She explained her job as emotionally and physically draining. After trying over and over to write classic “girly” books she found herself not liking the results. She used her own experiences and people she knows to contribute to the writing of her book. She really helped our group expand our knowledge on both the process of child removal and how complicated situations can get. I genuinely enjoyed talking and listening to this amazing author.

My name is Sarah and I am an Eighth grader at Little Red School House Elisabeth Irwin. Preventing child abuse along with helping people who have experienced it is something that I have always been very interested in. I passionately believe that no one should feel unsafe in places that should provide comfort, such as home or school. My group is working hard to make a change so that ones own anger and sadness is not inflicted on children.
