On December 12th, my group and I went to Jacks across the street from school to meet with model named Crystal Renn. Crystal was amazing to talk she had a very interesting story to tell as to how she became a model. Crystal Renn never aspired to be a model when she was younger, she was “discovered” by a modeling scout. At first when she tried out modeling, she wasn’t so successful. Many criticized her body type and face. But Crystal kept with it, and soon she became very popular among the world of modeling. As time went on, she started to struggle with her self image when she was turned down and compared to others. Soon enough she had developed an eating disorder. After struggling with anorexia for a while, Crystal was able to pull herself out of the mess she was in with plus size modeling. For her it was a whole other world from the skinny, skinny, skinny models she was with before. She also told us that when she was plus size modeling had time to create vision of what women should look like in magazines. She told us that no woman would be excluded, every type of body, hair, face and size would be included her vision. Overall, meeting with Crystal was truly inspiring and I hope to have the chance to meet with her some time again.
