Coalition for the Homeless interviews

Last week, Chiara, Scekem, and I went to 51st street to St. Bart’s Church, which is one branch of Coalition for the Homeless. We were able to interview four men about their experiences with poverty and homelessness. Only one of the men was filmed, but his story will be added to the documentary. The stories of the others helped us to recreate our own picture of poverty to repute the too common tenet that people who are impoverished are lazy. Only the three of us went because any more than us huddled around one person could make whomever we were interviewing somewhat intimidated.
Chiara (with occasional help from the rest of us) is putting together this interview with others we got from the people who went to St. John’s Food Pantry. Our documentary is currently 7 minutes in length and we are adding to it. As well as playing part of the movie at the teach-in next month, we hope to include some clips from our teach-in in the movie. We had the idea to film the kids’ (who attend our teach-in) first impressions on what poverty is.
