On January 15th me and my group, The Forgotten Heroes set up a meeting with the wonderful Rebeca Summers. Rebeca Summers is one of the heads of an organization called Intersections. Intersections is an interactive experience between two people like no other. The branch that Rebeca works for is veteran-civilian dialogues. The goal of here work is to create a safe environment where veterans and civilians can talk and learn about each other. I learned so many things from Rebeca, she is a veteran with lots to say. Rebeca told us all about what the war in Iraq was like for her and what got her into Intersections. Rebeca knew a lot about our topic and told us a lot of amazing facts like in WWII, 11 percent of the nation served in the war and no only 0.45 percent of the nation serve. The field work went very well and we came very prepared. Rebeca gave my group and I many other contacts that we could use to help us learn more about our topic. Before my group had a lot of trouble communicating and that would result in us postponing our field works. One exercise that Rebeca taught us was very interesting. It simply required a pen and paper. What you do is draw what you think a veteran looks like and what they would say. We will definably use this in our teach in. Rebeca invited us to an exhibit at the Brooklyn museum that is all about war. The exhibit will also be pared with a veteran civilian dialogue.
