On Thursday, January 23rd, Candis Tolliver, senior organizer for the NYCLU (New York Civil Liberties Union) came to speak to the Eighth Grade. The day before, three high schoolers came to Middle School Meeting and told of their experiences with racial profiling, so the topic of Stop and Frisk was one we had been discussing. Luckily, the high schoolers, Jarrett, Jerel, and Jeron were able to come to the visit and asked some great questions. This visit came from an earlier fieldwork where my group visited the NYCLU. When we were there we mentioned telling our classmates about all of the things we discussed, Candis offered to give a presentation to the class. Candis focuses on Stop and Frisk, but the NYCLU has many other programs looking at a wide variety of subjects in the state.
