My group and I got the opportunity to meet with filmmaker Peter Putka. He is currently working on an “interactive movie” which shows the things that leads up to a mass shooting. This interview showed us the unique ways people are addressing violence. For example Putka was making a movie where you can change the outcome. This would give the viewers the idea of what causes violence. After this field work we thought of alternative ways we could raise knowledge about gun violence. One interesting thing he said was that he chose the subject of violence because he was scared of what kind of world his daughter would grow up in. He believes that many small things lead up to a mass shooting. We learned about the inner workings of the independent movie business. For the teach-in, I want to remember an alternative way to get our idea across. We could make a movie or another way to make our message more artistic.
