Today we went to the a gallery with Richard Ross’ exhibit called “Juvenile In Justice.” We say many graphic pictures of the conditions that these youths have to live in. It was disgusting and moving to see the cells and read the quotes from the people who were photographed. All of the faces were blurred out to protect their identities which I thought was interesting
- These photos are mug shots of youths who have gone throgh the juvenile justice system who were killed on the streets. I thought this photo was moving because instead of writing deceased, they write the word “expired” like these kids were some kind fruit or vegetable that had expired before you could use it.
- These are six different cells that I found striking.
- This picture is of a girl incarcerated getting her cell searched by an officer. This happens to her everyday.
- I found this photo the most disturbing. When I first looked at it I did not understand why the restraining device was in a small inlet. Then I found the longer I looked at it, the more things popped out at me. For example, there is a door to close a person in the device in the dark and a plastic shield to protect the correctional officer from the person they are putting in the device.

- I tried on the same device that the teenager was wearing in the picture before this one. (Taken by Lauren)
- These were the handcuffs that I put on.
- This is a sample uniform the exhibit had. From a distance the shoes looked like they were made of leather, but actually they were made from plastic. That must be extremely uncomfortable.
- An inmate in his cell. He must have been there for a while to have so many things in his cell.
